Realtor Q&A – Jeff Williams

REALTOR - JEFF WILLIAMS.jpg

Name: Jeff Williams

Family: My wife’s name is Mindy and she is a maternity nurse at the Brunswick hospital. My daughter Rachel is a junior at Georgia Southern and a graduate of Glynn Academy, Hannah, a senior at University of Georgia, is also a graduate of Glynn Academy, and Kennedy and Ava.

Years in the Golden Isles: 23 years

School: Georgia Southern

Occupation: Associate broker and Realtor at Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Hodnett Cooper Real Estate for about seven years now.

Perfect weekend in the Golden Isles: I live for days out boating the back rivers and coastal areas. I have a terrific group of friends who, like me, enjoy offshore fishing and scuba diving. And loving real estate like I do, I have a great time driving around exploring neighborhoods and admiring homes of all types.

What do you believe are attributions to becoming a successful Realtor? An ability to connect with people on a personal level while exhibiting a high level of honesty and integrity is key. People will respond to you if you have a great attitude, are personable and honest, have confidence in your abilities, and are interested in helping them and others. I always take time to remember that while I do this everyday as my career choice, most of my clients may buy or sell a home only a few times their entire life. I think this thought helps me empathize with how strange and at times stressful it can be. One must also be entrepreneurial and self motivated to work hard everyday. Lastly, attention to detail is a must as we deal with very detailed and often times complicated contracts that that always have the potential for judicial review when conflicts arise.

What is some of the best advice you have received over the years? Learn and be more than competent. Staying up-to-date on the latest topics in real estate and in the local market will allow you to work more effectively. Continuing education and professional development are doors to opportunity that you can utilize to stay at the top of the real estate field. I got that wisdom from longtime broker Ronnie Perry the first time I met him and it has stayed with me.

What are some features of homes in the Golden Isles that always stand out to you? I love our historic district, having renovated a Victorian on Richmond street myself. And I really love most all types of homes. I can always find something beautiful about a home. My favorite homes would be the ones located on the back rivers and marshes that come with a dock for my boat. That’s how I eventually see myself landing in.

What advice would I give new agents starting out? New agents may not see their first commission check for at least 30-60 days. Put together a budget and save enough money so that you can meet your living expenses for at least 90 days.

I’d like to add that I truly love where I live. Glynn and surrounding counties have the best and friendliest folks around. I’ve made great friends here, raised a family in Brunswick and St Simons and even met my wife on St. Simons. The fishing is the best anywhere and that alone has anchored me to the Golden Isles. Being proud of my community is my best tool for helping folks find a home here.
